I had intended on writing an entry a couple of days ago, observing the fact that I only seem to write every 2 or 3 days. Well, in the meantime my daughter went searching for the lyrics to a song by a Christian singer named Staci Orrico (sp?) and the site she went to wound […] Anyone who has ever seen my desk, Scott, Ashley, Wendy, others, better sit down and make sure their breathing is regular. I have an announcement of major proportions. Stay calm, now. Okay, everybody, I finally did it. I cleaned my desk. *Loud, shocked gasps from the peanut gallery.* Oh, don’t worry. It wasn’t of my […] Savannah is 5 and a half pounds now and has been doing well at home. She has been doing well and her monitor has only gone off a couple of times and that was because she moved wrong. I will be posting pix in a couple of days of her new digs. I have a […] I wasn’t going to post an entry until later and normally I don’t just post an entry without trying to proof it, etc. as you all know but as I was blog-surfing this A.M. I came across something that just made my American blood boil and wanted to say my piece. I read blogs from […] *Comes tripping lightly onto scene, endless smiles, grins, etc.* Today’s the day! *does a little jig.* Today is really the day that Savannah is supposed to come home from the hospital! Woo-hoo! It’s supposed to be late this afternoon. Isabel and Ben had training yesterday on using the heart monitor and oxygen, so it looks […] Ben and Isabel were here and Savannah has a new doctor. He was (maybe still is) the partner of the one we had for all of our kids. He went up there and started talking to the nurses. “Why is this baby still here?” “She has been de-statting and her oxygen is low.” “If that’s […] First of all, Savannah is 5 lbs 1 oz! Hooah! Except that now she has a cold and is anemic. The cold will definitely keep her in the hospital until Friday and the anemia may provoke the need for a blood transfusion. I would say, “Aaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh” but Ben and Isabel have been saying it enough. […] Here is how my birthday went yesterday. As you may have been able to tell from yesterday’s entry, I was feeling a little down in the mouth. By the end of the day I was feeling much better. I guess I will start with my Sunday School class. We were learning about forgiveness and how […] My 45th Birthday today. Thanks. It is depressing sometimes to think that Poe had done his copious body of work along with editing magazines and writing articles on poetry that are still read today and been dead 5 years by my age. Savannah is 4 lbs 11 oz. She may be staying in her vacation […] I just finished re-reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury for the unknownth time again. I like Bradbury. If you have never read any of his stuff, pick it up. He has many great books; Dandelion Wine is a magical book, The Martial Chronicles, The Golden Apples of the Sun, The Illustrated Man and many others […] 4 lbs 9 oz. We went up and held her today. I should probably say I held her since I was hogging her for most of the time. I couldn’t help it. She’s so little and holdable and I was wearing my flannel shirt which she snuggled right into and well…Margaret kept on saying I […] Ever since Nicole http://nicoler.blogdrive.com/ , whom people think is so nice and sweet, mentioned in one of her holiday entries that she was baking cookies and brownies, Scott W and I have been trying to get her to make us some. We need to judge whether they are good or not. She sent us an […] February 2005 – The Haps With Herb

I Was Attacked By Malware

I had intended on writing an entry a couple of days ago, observing the fact that I only seem to write every 2 or 3 days. Well, in the meantime my daughter went searching for the lyrics to a song by a Christian singer named Staci Orrico (sp?) and the site she went to wound up giving me the most malicious spyware I have seen to date. It was crazy. They had completely hijacked my system. It took me almost 5 hours using 3 programs to get rid of it all because it works against your registry and lies resident in memory. I have come to the conclusion that invading my computer is the same as invading my home. There ought to be a law, rather, and enforceable law, against it. By visiting a website sponsored by the company you inherently agree to allow them to load stuff on your computer according to one program. I don’t think so. I apologize that I didn’t save any of the info of where she picked this up at but I can tell you about 2 freeware/dontaionware programs that worked well in helping me rid myself of this nuisance. One was “Ad-Aware” from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/default.shtml.en and the other is “Spy-Bot” from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html . My Norton anti-virus helped identify some problems, but wasn’t quite as helpful when it came to ridding myself of the problem. I recommend you study both of these programs and how they work and what they do and download them and run them. I had received a recommendation to uninstall “Spy-Bot” after using it because it would interfere with cookies from sites that were harmless as well as detect malware, spyware and adware, but I am leaving it on for now.

If you do use legitimate adware you will want to note that your licensing agreement says you have to leave it intact, so don’t break any contracts.

As The Good Book says, “T.A.N.S.T.A.A.F.L.” There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.

Or was it that Russian guy in “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress” by Heinlein?
