Fifteen Year Old Saves Dad By Punching Bear: Nice On The ‘Net Saturday

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 23212 – 1151

Here’s the haps:

In Sweden, they apparently have bears that are called brown bears but are members of the grizzly species. In Colorado, we have black bears, which are not normally as aggressive as grizzlies but still nothing to fool with. Bear species are a little confusing because black bears can be brown or even cinnamon-colored. European Brown Bears are essentially the same as Grizzly Bears. In any case, you don’t want to be on the receiving end of an attack by a bear of any sort.

A man in Sweden and his son were out bear hunting when the man was attacked by a 308-pound (44-stone) bear. The bear was on top of him and had lacerated his face when his son punched the bear in the head as hard as he could, hard enough to break his wrist. This distracted the bear enough for the man to get off a clean shot and kill the bear. Both father and son were taken to the hospital but the worst injury was the son’s broken wrist.

  1. I like Bears. No one should shoot one. Remember Gentle Ben, the Bear with a caring heart and real smart. Yogi and Boo-boo come to mind. Funny stuff.

    1. I like bears, too but I come from hunting country and Bambi and Yogi don’t enter my thoughts any more than Mickey or Wile E. Coyote. I am for legal hunting.

      1. yeah, I used to hunt too, but now too old and afraid I might shoot my foot off. A few weeks ago when in Ruidoso, there were Elk all over the town, looks as if they took over from the Deer.

  2. Two good starts to my weekend.

    1. Yay! 😊

  3. One of my greatest fears is meeting one of these on our many camping trips.

    1. Well, at least you know the precautions to take, but yeah, I’d avoid an encounter, too.

  4. I like how the bear in the last pictures blends seamlessly into it’s environment. Almost impossible to spot.

    1. Makes them extra scary!

      1. Exactly!

  5. I have a little black and white Teddy bear and that is enough for me.

    1. Yeah, I can understand that.

      1. In my second childhood now…

  6. I pawsed and reflected on this post and decided I liked the last meme the best. I can bearly see the animal.

    1. lol, I really had to squint to see him.

  7. I could not spot the bear but I saw the two kids skateboarding and the two tennis racquets.

    1. 😂That’s a pretty good start! The bear is really well camo’ed.

  8. This article might have been a little more uplifting if the father and son had just been out gathering mushrooms and minding their own business. But they were out hunting bears – and found one. Maybe they are better at the first part of bear hunting (finding bears) than the second part.

I am not against hunting at all. But I also realize that when you hunt something dangerous, there is truth in the old expression “Some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you.”
