Lincoln, England on the Blogging A – Z Challenge

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 23078 – 1103

Here’s the haps:

So, Mrs. Herb and I have decided pretty solidly that, at some point in time, we want to visit the U.K. And while we want to see the big touristy things we also want to go places where there may be records of ancestors and finding all that information will take some time. In the meantime, I sent a note to a fellow blogger and found out that they live near Lincoln, England and so it has become (hopefully) a destination.

Now, we definitely want to do the touristy things we know about in London, Big Ben, London Bridge, and absolutely must see Shakespeare performed at the Globe Theater. There are, of course, many other things to see and do there. There are other places to visit, like Oxford, but really, I don’t want to go there because commas are confusing enough and I’m sure I would get even more confused if I went there. Reenacting Jerome K. Jerome’s story of a boating holiday down the Thames, Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), at first glance might sound refreshing but then I read an account of some guys who did it and figured I would give that a hard pass. Another place to visit might be Worcester to see if I can learn the truth of how to pronounce their sauce once and for all.

In Lincoln, there is a lot of history. They have a 900-year-old cathedral with a myth about an imp, Lincoln Castle built by William the Conqueror in 1068, and a copy of the Magna Carta, for starters. Their tourism website, Visit Lincoln, is pretty thorough. rather than just copy and paste a bunch of information you can look at the site yourself. Top Ten Things to See in Lincoln. While I was on the site I did notice that there is a train that goes from London to Lincoln in a little under 2 hours. This will definitely work. Easy Peasy!
