That’s the thing about our current era, that we have incredible luxuries in the developed world that would have been inconceivable really only a century ago, readily available to most levels of society. I think this scares a lot of people. Especially to the people who keep complaining about population levels. If we can maintain this with a massive population, what else is possible? So you get complaints about just about everything that makes this possible. You get people who will argue against their own interests. “I can grow my own food!” Well, sure. But very few people are actually doing that. We have no idea. We USED to do that, and it didn’t work. It led to a lot of needless starvation. Having things so readily available, it’s changed life in ways and in such a short amount of time, it’s incomprehensible. It unsettles people.

    • I don’t think people are thankful for things any more, either. Everything’s taken for granted even though a century ago a lot of it was impossible to imagine.
