A Change In Schedule Seems To Be Called For

Herbโ€™s Blog,ย Herbdate 22591 โ€“ 904

Hereโ€™s the haps:

It seems to me that there are not enough hours in a day to get everything done that I want to get done. But we all get the same 1,440 minutes in a day which has been compared, by poets and sages, to different forms of money that we have in our account. It’s all in how we spend them. My time is often divided by things I have to do versus things I want to do along with things that are needful. Very few people, especially responsible ones, have complete control over their time. I feel blessed that I have a fairly balanced set of things I want to do and have to do but there just isn’t enough time.

Or is there?

I think what I will have to work on is changing when I go to bed and when I get up. It seems like it might be more productive if I am, as the saying, attributed to Ben Franklin (but actually he only quoted it in his almanac from earlier, similar sayings), “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” This used to be my habit but I have never gotten wealthy. I’ve often been accused (sometimes justly so) of being a wise guy. I didn’t feel any healthier then or now, just about the same. But I think it will change how productive I am. We’ll see. I don’t think it will affect you guys a whole lot except that I may get to spend more time visiting on your blogs, which will be nice. I’ll try to keep you all informed of my progress.

  1. Haha, some people prefer early and some prefer late. I think most children prefer late but unfortunately they have to get up early to go to school.

  2. Our cat doesn’t let us stay up late. My wife and I shower at 8:00-8:30 in bed by 9 (although sometimes I don’t fall asleep till 10) but I am up every weekday morning at 5:50 and leave the house by 7:00 (takes about 20 minutes to get to work) I use my early morning wake ups to play catch-up on other people’s blogs, eat a hearty breakfast and wake up.

    1. Sounds like a good plan.

      1. Been working for me, in 51 yes never hit snooze either

      2. Worked for me in 51 years, never hit the snooze

        1. Way cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  3. I’ve always been an early riser, but it hasn’t made me any wiser or wealthier…

    1. LoL. I was and I will get back into it but it never did much for my wealth or wisdom, either.

      1. yet I keep doing it…

  4. I’ve done early to bed, I’ve done late to bed… makes no difference. Not healthy, not wealthy, certainly not wise. Good thing I never believed those old superstitions anyway.

    1. LoL. Well, I just want more time to read and write, especially blogs.

  5. Many small creatures live for only a very short span of time, but to them it still feels like a lifetime…

    1. That’s a really good perspective. Thank you.

  6. It’s 1:25am here and it’s taking a toll on the value of my comments.

    1. LoL. That’s what I mean, though.

      1. Yep. I don’t even do the things I know are right to do.

  8. I don’t know about Ben but I have an uncle who just retired. He does very little that he wants to do and wonders how he ever had time to go to work with all the errands and repairs he has to do

    1. Hahaha!

  10. Mornings are my favourite part of the day. Good luck with the new schedule.
