Here’s the haps:
Some of my readers have been with me for the long haul and some have just started following me. Some are very modern and up-to-the-minute on all things internet and others, well, maybe not-so-much. As I mentioned in a different post there are folks who go back and read things I’ve written in the past and commented on them or liked them. Some of them were quite good, actually, but not all of them. They click the “like” button sometimes just to show that they read the post. I think that’s really cool. Thank you all for taking an interest in my stuff.
But, what I want to know is, is it okay to like your own post? I mean sometimes I will write a piece that I am really proud of and I really do like. If I read that post on someone else’s blog I would really hit that “like” button but it seems, I don’t know, in some ways sort of “full of myself” and I should let others do that, but yet, it really was pretty good. Not all platforms offer a self-hosting option and don’t have a “like” button. I don’t use Fakebook or Twit or any of those, just my own website where I have full control of the contents. I have had people disagree with me on occasion but since most of my followers and especially my commenters are high class, intelligent people I have never had to edit or delete someone’s comment. But this question just kind of popped up in my mind and I just thought I’d ask somebody who knows something. Or doesn’t. I don’t know.
Okay. I finally have got that off my chest. I have to say, however, that if that is the biggest problem I have in my life or the toughest decision I will ever have to face, I think I’ve got it pretty easy.
Remember, the good book asks the question, “Why don’t you ever see the headline ‘Psychic Wins Lottery’?”

Well… As far as I’m concerned, if there’s a post that you’re truly proud of, it’s perfectly all right to do so. I do it all the time on both my blogs- so I don’t see any harm in liking your own posts!
It isn’t being full of yourself or anything like that- it’s just appreciating yourself. Some people like their own posts to boost the number of likes that they’ve gotten, and I think that that’s okay as well!! We all have our own reasons for blogging. Nobody should judge you if you’re proud of yourself, or if you just want higher numbers.
So, yeah- in conclusion, according to me, liking your own posts is perfectly fine.

I think you should like most of your posts! For one thing, your posts are interesting or I wouldn’t be following you. That also means that, since I like/love your posts, you must as well, because, if you don’t, it means that you don’t have a brain in your head!! Of course, that’s illogical because anyone who writes such terrific posts has to have a rather good brain!
I always appreciate your kindness and support. I think I try to keep an even keel about things and not think more highly of myself than I ought but in the same breath respect myself and any talents God has given me.
The (very) few times this happened, I felt like I was clicking ‘Like’ to show that I liked their posting my story. 🙂 See? Easy out.

Hey I’m totally for liking your own posts once in awhile. If you really feel like you deserve that pat in the back then why not. I think I did that with a few initial posts on my blog years ago, when I had just started out and the pieces were read probably by just 4-5 people other than myself. I used to feel the need to tell myself, it’s okay, this was good work, not everyone is reading, but that’s okay, I did a good job. So personally, I believe it’s frankly okay to do that. But I wouldn’t say that for all the posts, it’s harmless but would still seem a little vain and silly to me. So there’s that. As long as it’s just one like we can do by ourselves, I don’t think it’s bad. It’s not like we are paying and getting people to pretend as followers and press like. Something similar happens but Idk exactly why it’s lucrative lol 🤔😂

Go ahead and Like it. I would not suggest putting up a neon sign saying I WROTE THIS with arrows and music. but if you’re proud of it and someone reposted it why not?

I never like my own posts. I think it would make me feel like a fraud, but if someone wants to like their own posts I don’t have a serious moral problem with it.
That’s a little bit how I feel. I don’t know what difference it would make one way or the other, really.

I think it’s perfectly ok to like your own post. I don’t always hit like even i read the posts. I read all posts of blogs I follow, but I only hit like if I like what I read.
That’s probably the best way. A lot of people use it to show that they read the piece, which is okay, too. I really always appreciate comments the most, even though I don’t leave them all the time. Sometimes I don’t know what to say.
I am similar. I don’t have much to say, in particular fluffy words. If I really like the post I send a green heart 💚. If I like particular lines I will give specific feedback. I hit like means I like what I read. 😃

Hi Herb, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with liking your own post, for whatever reason. When I first started blogging I liked my posts because sometimes it was the only like there, I did it to encourage myself, so much nicer to see 1 like than 0 likes, even if it is mine. As things got better I kept on with it because it became a habit, and now that numbers have tumbled so badly I’m making sure to hit the like button, again for encouragement. I also like it when others hit the like button, just to let me know that they have been around and it is a good encouraging thing to do for one another. Just my thoughts. Have a great week Herb!😀😺

This kind of makes me think of bogus reviews, where people are either giving star ratings or whole fake reviews that are only being used as promotional material rather than honest assessments, which is something that especially bothers me in the blogging community (not yours) I entered nearly a decade ago (and have never been able to replace, alas, with a better one). I just don’t see the point. Does integrity count for nothing? Except every last one of them is lying for the sole gratuitous purpose of tricking each other into supporting them. The craftiest ones seem to have a ton of time on their hands, and have successfully turned the whole operation into a scam creating the illusion of success. Well, short term, anyway.
So I don’t think it’s much worth boosting perception of your work by counterfeit means. If you’re popular let it because either you’re entertaining or that your material really is that good. If you’re not, so be it. It’s better than being popular for all the wrong reasons, and reaping rewards without truly paying it forward.
Thanks Tony. There is a lot of wisdom, and truth, in what you say. I have seen those “reviews” as well. Not just in the writing world either.
Herb – I usually give a like to say I’ve read it – more so with comments that with main postings. I only give myself likes when it looks like a posting has jammed or something – just to make sure it works – but it always looks a bit indolent. I haven’t been getting messages for your new postings recently so if it looks like things are dormant I’m trying to fix it!

I don’t know, I’ve always felt like liking your own things is a bit like when dogs lick their butts and look kind of smug. Bad metaphor maybe, but obviously noone would post something they wouldn’t like
