I guess I could have taken the time to rewrite this with modern-day prices and everything but this is the way it was told to me and I like it. I told it to a math teacher who became very annoyed because “I said it wrong.” Since I needed her grade I decided to not pursue it. Oh by the way, do you know why Six was afraid of Seven? Because Seven ate Nine.
Three men check into a hotel. The desk clerk says, “$10 a piece for the rooms.” They pay the $30 and head up to their rooms. The hotel manager comes by and reminds the desk clerk that they are having a special, 3 for $25. The desk clerk gives the bellhop $5 to take upstairs to the men. On his way up, the bellhop tries to figure out how he will divide the $5 among the three men. He decides to just give each guy $1 and pocket $2 for himself. That means each man paid $9 for his room. $10 – $1 = $9. But, 3 x $9 = $27. The bellhop kept $2. $27 + $2 = $29.
What happened to that last dollar?

$30 paid – $3.00 reimbursed amount = $27 – $2.00 kept = $25.00 actual price of room.
That sounds like my math teacher, lol.
Sorry, I am weird. I took Trigonometry my first year in college and was one of the few people who actually enjoyed it. Lol
Thank you for getting my brain cells energized. I have been somewhat lethargic in the problem solving area because of my hectic schedule. It was so nice to sit back and relax while trying to solve the math problem. I know I am weird, but if you post another one, that would be amazing! Thank you!
Wow. I don’t know if I have any more. I barely squeaked by in General Math. I had to learn Algebra when I started college and I had a tough row to hoe. I probably have something in one of my archives somewhere though and if I find it, you will see it here.
