Award Winning Wednesday – G P Cox at Pacific Paratrooper

When I decided to do this weekly award I never really expected it to be so hard. Well, okay, I kind of did. I only read or look at blogs that have captured my attention for one reason or another. I am starting to realize that I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I am going to keep on doing it, presenting you with a blog I really enjoy and follow all the time. I just like a lot of different blogs and would genuinely like to sit down and have a cup of coffee with them, maybe pick their brains.

Many of my choices are going to “Award Free Blogs.” This is okay with me because I am not looking for click backs and links, I am looking to share with my readers, long-time readers and newly-acquired alike, something about myself and potentially something they may enjoy. Keeping this in mind I also wondered if I should consider how many followers the person has. I don’t think that’s a valid criterion, however, because there are bloggers that have many tens of thousands of followers or more (I use the term as based on WordPress Reader, so it’s kind of a tongue-in-cheek-take-it-with-a-grain-of-salt number) that aren’t worth opening up. There are also some blogs with very few followers that are incredibly great.

Many blogs specialize in one subject and focus on presenting content relating to it. One such blog is Pacific Paratrooper by GP Cox. His focus is generally on World War Two in the Pacific Rim. There are letters that are from real people of the time included in his posts and they occasionally use the vernacular of the time. He also does some general patriotic pieces as well. I always find his posts are interesting and factually written. If you are interested in World War Two history and the people of that time you should definitely check out Pacific Paratrooper. He can do anything or nothing as he wants to with this award but I am offering the “Herb likes this blog and would like to have coffee with this blogger sometime,” award to the interesting, intelligent, historically accurate Pacific Paratrooper.

Another great pick…..thanks! My maternal grandfather served in World War Two. My dad served in the Vietnam War. My dad was in the Army for 29 years serving this country: E-9 Sergeant Major. Love the blog!

One of the things about his blog, too, is that he tries to stick to historical facts.

I saw that. Thanks. That is what makes it so interesting. My dad would love to read it, however, he is not an internet person. Will have to show it to him when I visit.

Good choice, I’m pretty new to this blogging thing and other “interweb” ins and outs. I’ve just started following his blog and find myself reading most all the posts. History must not be forgotten, Mr. Cox is definitely keeping it alive.

I remember the days when blog awards were like mushrooms after rain – popping out everywhere. It definitely became taxing, trying to field through many great blogs and trying to figure out who deserves it more at any given time.

There are so many blogs with thousands and thousands of followers that I just look at and leave within a minute. Back in the day, apparently, it was easy/ easier to have your blog featured by WordPress in their “Discover” section. That caused you to get thousands of followers instantly. Also, I remember that when I was creating my blog, I was told to visit specific blogs because they give great blogging advice. I did. I followed them. They all had thousands of followers. And then, they stopped posting at all. Or … I just didn’t feel them anymore. I wonder if those same people are recommended to newbies nowadays. I see it as a somewhat unfair advantage. But, I digress. I only meant to say that there are plenty of blogs that are undervalued and I’m not sure why. Sometimes it is due to their lacking promotion.

I like your non-award award gif.

    I will check his site.

I think a lot of bloggers who were featured like that simply weren’t ready for it. I know that was the case with a couple bloggers I followed who wrote some pretty good featured posts. After a while I wound up unfollowing them, because they just had nothing valuable to say. Anyone can write one good post, writing a body of work is an entirely different story.

      1. Herb Avatar

        I agree.

Thanks for reading here! Most of the awards I have seen or been offered are just empty begs for kickbacks, that’s why I started doing this. I think Dumbestblogger is right. It’s easy to come up with a good one once in a while but to do it consistently is more of a challenge.
