Xenia, Illinois on the Blogging A – Z Challenge

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 23069 – 1117

Here’s the haps:

As you may or may not remember from our trip to Kentucky to the Ark Encounter, on our way we will pass through the state of Missouri and I mentioned a stop in Evansville, Indiana. What I didn’t think of was we will also be traveling somewhere in southern Illinois. I was looking for places that start with X. There aren’t a whole lot of choices and I wanted something that I could find myself actually wanting to do. There are a couple of resorts in Mexico that start with X but I am not really a resort type of person for a lot of reasons.

Most of the other places were either fictional or in China. I have no hate for the people of China but their Communist government is very evil and oppressive. I wrote about the Uighur Muslim people there a few years back which is one good example and enough for me.

There is a location in Colorado named Xenia but there is nothing there. I looked around Xenia, Ohio a little bit. The city of Hospitality but it also has the dubious distinction of being the tornado capital of Ohio. There is a fellow blogger who lives in Ohio but I don’t know where and this would be out of the way for what we would want to do. Ohio looks like a beautiful state, though.

So, of the three, why this spot? Its population is only 307 and most everything like hotels or stores are in towns up or down the road but this place has one thing that appeals to me in a major way. A Mom and Pop diner. I love small-town restaurants and in a town this small you have got to be good. It’s called the Skillet Fork Grill and has 5 reviews on Trip Advisor which says it’s “#1 of 1 Restaurant in Xenia.”

Absolutely HAVE TO go there.
