Award Winning Wednesday – Tony Laplume At Tony Laplume

Herb’s blog, Herbdate 22125-696:

Tonight’s award is a little different because I actually do know Tony in person. We became acquainted when we both worked at the big blue box. We didn’t have a lot of conversations or spend a lot of time together but have you ever met someone and you just “clicked?” When he was getting ready to move away on his last day, we exchanged emails and discovered each other’s blogs. Now the blog I am linking to here, Tony Laplume, is only one of seven blogs. He doesn’t update them all regularly except this one, which he has been keeping up pretty well. It is kind of his personal story where he talks about his writing and his life. He takes on all kinds of topics although his favorite is Science Fiction. On his Star Trek Fan Companion blog, he has reviews of pretty much any and every Star Trek episode from all of the various series and the movies. He can also explain the various nuances of the different Star Wars iterations and knows whether Han Solo shot first or not and why it makes a difference to the development of the character.

I don’t know most of the stuff he knows, especially when it comes to in-depth fandom. I like to read about his job and his family. He is a nice guy and never uses profanity. The only issue with giving him this award is that if we ever had time to get together and have coffee I think we could probably find something to talk about until they kicked us out. He has read the entire Revised Standard Version of the Bible, including the Apocrypha, through and at one time had a blog about each book as he completed it He turned that blog into a book called Reading Biblically. He’s written some about the Trojan War and Homer. He has also dedicated one of his books that had a kind of a western flair to me which made me feel pretty cool.

He can do anything or nothing as he wants to with this award but I am offering the “Herb likes this blog and would like to have coffee with this blogger sometime,” award to the interesting and intelligent, Tony Laplume.

  1. I tried finding this after you posted about it, but I guess I glossed over it (which is what happens when you don’t visit Blogger every day to see what people have been posting in my feed). Thanks, Herb! I thought for a second that someone had thoughtlessly hacked your account to leave me that message (which all considered would still have been cool). Now I’ve read it! If I ever end up back in the Springs you can guarantee I’d have a coffee with you. And you’ve really sunk your teeth into the stuff I’ve written! Thanks! You’re a good friend!
