Mischievous Shenanigans

I have a few incidents to chronicle from our little get-away of the last few days. Even though we never left Colorado Springs I don’t think it’s exactly a stay-cation because we didn’t stay at the house. We went and got a cheap room because if we would have stayed at the house we would have found too many distractions.

As it was and is often wont to happen, we wound up having all manner of this and that crop up at the last minute. During all the little hubbub, “Did you get the dog dropped off?” “Did you remember to pack this or that?” “Where are your pills?” “Grab the jug to fill with water in Manitou Springs.” Daughter-in-law and kids came over to help and to do a bit of vandalism. Well, vandalism isn’t exactly the right word, but I think shenanigans is more like it. It may class up there with hi-jinx, but I don’t know.

We went to leave and were greeted by this on the rear passenger side:

Rear passenger side main window.

Yes, my car is that dirty.
It says:
Year 1980
Pac Man released
Far Side Comic Released
Empire Strikes Back released
Thiel and Pike unite in Holy Matrimony AND STILL MARRIED!!

The little side window had this:

Passenger side little rear window

It says, “Honk and congratulate them
rare accomplishment
History in the making”

The driver side window:

It says, “True Love
40 years!”

It says:
“Love never fails!”
“Love forever!”

The next one, the rear, needs a little bit of a setup. Whenever our family has ever played “The Game of Life” we have had a rule from the very beginning. When you get to the point where the game makes you get married, the whole group has to sing a chorus of The Shirelle’s, “Going To The Chapel.” No matter what player it is, everybody has to do it. It’s a rule. Over the years I have had several people question this rule and want to argue with me about whether it’s actually in the rule book or not. Finally, one day I made sure it was in the rule book. I took a black ballpoint pen and now it is there in black & white. In fact, I went to go get it out of the box and take a picture of it to show you but for some reason, the rule book wasn’t there. Oddly enough, this is a picture of the cover:

The Game Of Life – 40th Anniversary Edition

I’m sure some ne’er-do-well absconded with the rule book. Either that or one of the kids stuck it in the wrong box when they were told to pick up. But yes, we own the 40th anniversary edition. Anyway, across the top of the back of the car was:

The rest of the back said:
“Herb and Margaret
Sittin’ in a tree
K.I.S.S.I.N.G.”
“40 YEARS”
“Happy Anniversary!!”
“Honk and Congratulate them!”
We got a lot of honking and people hollering congratulatory wishes at us.

The last part is really sweet. Above both doors was:

There is a song that was on a Sandra Boynton kids’ book and record set that was sung by the late Davy Jones of the Monkees. It’s a sweet little tune:

Your Personal Penguin

I like you a lot
You’re funny and kind
So let me explain
What I have in mind.
I want to be Your Personal Penguin
I want to walk right by your side
I want to be Your Personal Penguin
I want to travel with you far and wide
Wherever you go, I’ll go there too
Here and there and ev’rywhere
And always with you
I want to be Your Personal Penguin
From now on.
Now lots of other penguins seem to do fine
In a universe of nothing but ice
But if I could be yours and you could be mine
A cozy little world would be twice as nice
I want to be Your Personal Penguin
I want to talk with you night and day
I want to be Your Personal Penguin
I want to listen to whatever you say
Look at these wings, so perfect to hold you
I’d like to say again
What I have already told you
Let me be Your Personal Penguin
Form now on.
Now lots of other penguins seem to do fine
In a universe of nothing but ice
But if I could be yours and you could be mine
A cozy little world would be twice as nice
I want to be (want to be) Your Personal Penguin
I want to walk right by your side
I want to be (want to be) Your Personal Penguin
I want to travel with you far and wide
Wherever you go, I’ll go there too
Here and there and ev’rywhere
And always with you
I want to be Your Personal Penguin
Imagine me, Your Personal Penguin
I want to be Your Personal Penguin
From now on.

More adventures to come…
