He’s Alive!

“But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.” (Mar 16:7 KJV)

I think a lot of us relate to Peter. I know I do. Even those of us who may not be as loud, entering a room mouth first, spouting off what we think. Sure, The Sons of Thunder wanted to call fire from Heaven at one point but only Peter had the nerve to rebuke Jesus. The real appeal of the character of Peter is he was a failure.

And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. (Luk 22:33-34 KJV)

The maid said, “Hey! This guy’s one of them.” “Nuh-uh.” Later somebody else had a similar conversation. Finally, somebody said, “I can tell by how you talk…” “Man!” said Peter, cursing and swearing, “I don’t know him.” Just as the rooster started crowing. And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter. There was obviously eye contact and just like anybody else, a look can often convey things no words could ever say. Peter remembered their conversation and went out and wept bitterly.

I think I “get” Peter. This is why I think I also “get” why the angel named him specifically.

  1. I thought St. Peter compiled the bible together?
We had a story about him in our school english textbook where he turned a woman to a woodpecker because she refused to give him cake.
