Actually, I should more correctly say, a link to another good post. I like the Erratic Engineeress’ blog and I like her no-nonsense, common-sense approach to the Corona Virus concern. She’s written another post that has many links to actual scientific data. It’s called UNDERSTANDING COVID-19: RELEVANT LITERATURE.
I have found an interesting puzzle in all this business, however. Our store has been wiped out on hand sanitizer for a little while now and now we are out of toilet paper and paper towels, almost out of Clorox wipes and Lysol, but there’s one thing we still have enough of to go around. Hand soap! Why is there still hand soap available anywhere? Hand sanitizer is effective when used properly but nothing compares to washing your hands to prevent germs from spreading. Even at the hospital, where they (under normal conditions, I haven’t followed the current situation there) offer both, they are constantly preaching handwashing. Did you know you are only supposed to use hand sanitizer every couple of times, then it’s time to wash your hands? If your hands are visibly dirty, washing them is more effective than hand sanitizer.

Thanks for sharing, again! I really hope it helps anyone reading. As for hand soap, I don’t get it either. I didn’t even buy hand sanitizers for at home, because they’re useless unless you live with a sick person. I wash my hands when I leave and when I get to my new destination and that’s it. We used hand sanitizers at work (we’re now working from home as of next week) because we were a lot of people in the office, but even there hand washing felt more efficient somehow.
